At My Wedding Twitterring and Facebooking at the Altar

September 30th, 2010

At My Wedding Twitterring and Facebooking at the Altar

This was just done to be funny – we really don't Facebook THAT often :) . A special thanks to Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, MD. If you are in the area and are looking for someplace with great community, children, and small group ministries check us out at mountainchiristian.org. I have a lot of family scattered around the country and we all use Facebook a lot to keep in touch. So when Tracy and I were engaged, most of my family found out via Facebook because we updated our statuses. I surprised not only my guests, but also Tracy by pulling out my phone and posting on Facebook and Twitter from the altar during out wedding. I had her phone ready in my pocket, so when she asked for it I could hand it to her. No one knew about this except the minister, and myself. Here is the twitter post twitter.com

Stop Dog Barking – Let a Good Bark Collar Do the Work for You

September 29th, 2010

Some common complaints against dog include clawing up furniture, chewing up shoes, and knocking down house items during their rowdy play. But then, when these happen in your home, and not in someone else’s, it’s not like your neighbors will complain. So if your dog happens to bark long and loud at night, that’s a bother. This disturbance is bad enough for dog owners who own their homes. If you rent, you could get kicked out of your apartment if you can’t stop your dog from barking. The good thing is that getting bark collars for your dog will solve this problem.

There is an issues some dog owners face with bark collars – whether these collars are humane to use on dogs. This concern seems to be rooted in the assumption that bark collars primarily inflict pain to deter animals from engaging in certain behaviors. Truth is the device on the bark collars aim to “interrupt” the dog’s barking by releasing various types of stimulus; this is farm from inflicting pain. The goal is to constantly provide an interruption every time the dog barks; over time, the dog will bark less. Over time the dog avoids barking to avoid the interruption. This interruption comes in the form of either a spray, a low-volt shock, or a high-pitched sound. These do not inflict harm on the dog in any way.

There’s the spray type, the shock type, and the sound type. The spray variety typically uses Citronella extracts – all natural and non-toxic – and is released in the direction of the dog’s snout upon barking. The scent “arrests” the dog’s attention, since it has a good sense of smell; and his barking is interrupted. As a deterrent, it’s not much different from suddenly smelling a distinct scent while you’re focused on a task.

The shock type employs an electric volt no more harmless than brushing against static on a carpet. It’s nothing compared to touching a live wire, but it is enough to derail a dog’s attention. The sound bark collar type uses a high-pitched tone as the interruption; the tone is far to high in range for human hearing. The sound is enough to stop the dog from barking, until it learns to stop barking altogether.

Like most electronic bark collars, all three types use batteries. Two sensors comprise the trigger mechanism of the bark collars, on the good quality ones at least. The stimulus (i.e., spray, shock, sound) is released once your dog’s throat vibrates, along with the loud sound of its barking. The rationale is for the device to distinguish a bark from any other sound.

If you want to stop your dog from barking, you only need to find the right collar for your dog. Consult online guides for sizes matching your dog’s breed and weight. Don’t forget to go over customer reviews for added feedback on products.
